Stained Glass Doorway

The Monson Historical Society has recently acquired the original stained glass entryway to the Charles Merrick House at 99 Main St.

Charles Merrick along with his partner Rufus Fay put Monson on the map in the 1830's. They started the Merrick & Fay Straw Works, located where the Town Office Building (110 Main St.) is now, and known all over New England for their hats.

They married sisters and had identical houses built in 1842. This doorway has been in storage for over 50 years.

The Monson Historical Society wishes to donate it to someone in Monson. It would be wonderful for anyone restoring a house of that period, or even for a new house.

The condition of this gift is that it has to stay in Monson.

The reason the Historical Society is offering this is because it is too large to keep in their collection.

For more information, call Bill Dominick at 267-3740.
